PROJECT SNAPSHOT: Mitchell Laithes WWTW Inlet Screw Pump Top Bearing Replacements

CLIENT: Yorkshire Water

PMP were contacted by Yorkshire Water to quote for the repair of the damaged inlet pumping system at Mitchell Laithes, Waste Water Treatment Works and complete a large basket of work safely and accurately in as short of time frame as possible to stem the need and cost of the site mitigation they currently had in place.

Yorkshire Water had been experiencing difficulty at Mitchell Laithes, Dewsbury, waste water treatment works with their inlet wet well and inlet screw pumps. For some time, there had been a large mitigation system put in place, bypassing the screw pumps and diverting inlet flows directly across the site. The mitigation in place was not only expensive it was also blocking multiple access points for vehicles across site.

Aims of this specific project were to pro-actively replace 2 x top bearings on the top right and bottom left screw pumps. It had been seen a business need due to the bottom right screw pump's, top bearing having previously failed, resulting in further damage to the screw pump and its bearing housing. This additional damage meant longer downtime of the screw pump as well as additional mitigation costs until the screw could be fixed.

Changing the top bearings pro-actively on the top right and bottom left screw pumps whilst the inlet was out of commission was a high priority for Yorkshire Water so that all four pumps would be refurbished at roughly the same time and future failure in the short term was much less likely to happen.
