Success in a Tight Spot for PMP.

Experience in safe working in confined spaces and installation of AMEX-10 seals ensured PMP were successful in solving a problem at Thames Water’s High Wycombe Sewage Treatment Works.

Working under contract to Amec, drainage and civil engineering contractors Dragtone Ltd. were installing a 1.5km pipeline when just one leaking joint was discovered in a 600mm outlet pipe from a treatment tank. As the whole chamber was surrounded by concrete, excavating to the outlet pipe for an external repair was too costly. On the basis of a previous successful contract, Dragtone called in PMP and an urgent response team was sent to repair the leaking joint internally.

A PMP AMEX engineer accessed through the 600mm pipe bend from the tank floor to work in the extremely confined space. The pipe joint repair was completed in good time and on budget.

As a low profile mechanical seal, the AMEX-10 seal can repair leaking pipe joints from within a pipe, without causing an obstruction to flow. A robust section of EPDM rubber that spans the joint is installed using hydraulic expansion of stainless steel compression rings, eliminating the uses of chemical adhesives and their associated hazards. The abrasion resistant seal is able to accommodate substantial joint movement and is quality assured, as each seal has an independently verified life expectancy of more than 50 years.
